Membership in PLD/SE offers you many benefits:

  • Continuing education programs featuring speakers who are leaders in the field, keeping members abreast of current trends and new developments in learning disabilities and related areas. Topics concern students from preschool age through adulthood.  Programs are scheduled every other month from September through May.  
  • Members receive CPDU credits through Northeastern Illinois University for all programs they attend.
  • Discounts for our Annual Dr. Janet Lerner Fall Seminar presented by a noted specialist in the field. The seminar involves an in-depth study of a current topic or training in specific materials of interest to our membership.
  • Discounts for our Annual Dinner with noted guest speaker..
  •  A professional lending library including current books, journals, pamphlets, videos, and audio tapes for member’s review.  Materials may be checked out by members and returned at the next regular meeting.
  • A newsletter informing members of general information, pertinent government issues, and professional meetings.Informal study group sessions that focus on topics of interest to members. Study groups are generally small and more intimate, and meet in members homes three times during the program year.
  • A well respected referral service for parents, hospitals, physicians, agencies, and schools seeking qualified educational therapists and diagnosticians for preschoolers through adult. Members may become a part of our Educational Therapists program upon fulfilling designated criteria.

Professionals in Learning Disabilities and Special Education is a not-for-profit organization offering continuing education programs to inform members of current instructional practices, assessment, and policy issues in the field of learning disabilities.  PLD/SE also offers a referral service to the community, providing qualified professionals for diagnostics and remediation.  PLD/SE provides programs as a service to its members.  PLD/SE does not endorse any specific program, speaker, instructional materials, method, treatment, or evaluation center for children with disabilities.
