The Effects of Language Difficulties on Reading Comprehension and Writing

presented by Stacey Buck, CCC-SPL/L

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

7:00 PM

McCracken Middle School

8000 East Prairie Road

Skokie, IL  60076

How does sentence structure impact reading comprehension?  In what way does Theory of Mind impact reading comprehension in addition to social interaction?  Delving into the five areas of language (syntax, morphology, semantics, phonology, and pragmatics), participants will gain a new perspective on the impact of difficulty with any of the language areas on reading comprehension and writing.  The presentation will include definitions, examples, and developmental milestones for each area and relevant research will be incorporated.  With a focus on school-age children (5 - 18 years), participants will apply this foundational information in order to analyze children in videos and case examples.

Stacey Buck is an ASHA certified and Illinois licensed Speech-Language Pathologist who has worked with children for over 20 years.  Prior to opening her private practice in Chicago, Stacey taught general and special education students both individually and in team-teaching.  Stacey's classroom experience helps her prepare children for academic success and provide meaningful input when consulting with teachers.  In private practice, Stacey works with preschoolers through college-age young adults, and their families.

If inclement weather necessitates cancelling this meeting, you will receive an email about the cancellation.  Please check your email in advance of the meeting.
