Annual Dinner:  Why Gossip Matters:  Social, Organizational, Psychological and Psychotherapeutic Dynamics

Presented by Jay Einhorn, PhD, LCPC

Tuesday, May 8, 2018

6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Gusto Ristorante Italiano

1834 Glenview Road

Glenview, IL

Gossip is a basic part of human relationships, and it's not all bad.  Gossip means talking about someone who is not present in ways that evaluate their behavior and character.  It is so fundamental that it has been seen as the wellspring of human language, taking the place of "grooming" in animal relationships.  We will explore the meaning and dynamics of gossip in our relationships, our organizations (where sociologists have studied its role in communicating key information), in psychotherapy (where much of the conversation is about others who are not present), and in our own understanding of, and adaptation to, self and world.  Don't miss it, or we might be talking about YOU!

Jay Einhorn, PhD, LCPC, is a psychologist and counselor in independent practice in Evanston, where he provides psychotherapy, neuropsychological and personality evaluations, and mentoring consultation for therapists.  He presented on "Consultation to Refine Therapists' Perceptiions and Skills" at the NASW-IL, Illinois Psychological Association, and Illinois Counseling Association conferences in the fall of 2017, as well as guest teaching a graduate class on consultation for therapists at the City University of New York in March, 2018.  Jay is past president and long-time chair of Peer Study Groups of the Chicago Assn. for Psychoanalytic Psychology, and also a clinical supervisor in the counseling program at the Family Institute of Northwestern University.
